Tesla Files Plans for a Second Robotaxi-Only Supercharger in Austin — 24 V4 Stalls, No Wireless Pads

Tesla has filed plans for a second Robotaxi-only charging depot in Austin, and this one is all plugs, no pads. Permits and blueprints uncovered by longtime Supercharger tracker MarcoRPi1 (@MarcoRPi1) on X show a 24-stall DC fast-charging installation mapped out for 2323 Ridgepoint Drive, an existing Tesla sales, delivery, and service location in northeast Austin. The project drawing folder is labeled "2323 Ridgepoint Dr – Robotaxi," which leaves little doubt about who the stalls are for.
Running an autonomous ride-hailing fleet takes a lot more than good self-driving software. The cars need somewhere to charge, get cleaned, and wait between passenger trips — ideally without parking themselves in the public stalls that retail owners are trying to use. Tesla is clearly building that ground infrastructure ahead of demand.
What the Filing Shows
The Ridgepoint layout is straightforward heavy-duty charging hardware:
- Three V4 Supercharger cabinets feeding 24 V4 posts.
- A 2,500 kVA utility transformer and a 4,000-amp switchboard to back them up.
- Roughly 29 to 32 existing parking spaces behind the facility get repurposed for the build.
- Mini EV flex bollards for stall protection, plus wireless access points mounted on light poles so the site can talk directly to incoming vehicles.
That last detail is the tell that this is fleet infrastructure, not a retail site. Cars that arrive without a driver need a way to coordinate with the depot itself.
Plug-In Stalls Over Wireless Charging Pads
This is the second commercial charging depot Tesla has submitted in the Austin area recently. A few weeks ago, plans surfaced for a much larger hub along East St. Elmo Road calling for 48 V4 stalls in phase one before adding 80 inductive charging pads in phase two. The Ridgepoint drawings show no wireless charging equipment at all.
That's a little disappointing if you were hoping wireless charging was arriving fast, but it makes practical sense right now. Tesla plans for the Cybercab to eventually use wireless inductive charging exclusively, yet current production units still carry a hidden NACS port on the rear bumper. The standard Model Y robotaxis making up the rest of the fleet rely on ordinary plugs too.
Conventional V4 posts can service both vehicle lines immediately — wireless pads would only serve one of them, and not even all of those yet.
Ground Support for a Scaling Fleet
The timing lines up with real demand. Tesla officially started offering public Cybercab rides last week, which turns dedicated turnaround facilities from an experiment into a requirement. And these hubs are set up to do more than push electrons: earlier filings showed Tesla Robotaxi depots adding automated car-cleaning robots that vacuum floors, sanitize surfaces, and wipe down windows between passenger drop-offs.
Geographically, the two sites bracket the city. St. Elmo covers the south side; Ridgepoint anchors the northeast corridor.
What This Means for EV Owners
Here's the part that matters if you drive your own Tesla: Tesla is deliberately building the fleet its own plugs instead of letting driverless cars pile into public stalls. A robotaxi fleet large enough to serve a 264-square-mile geofence could absolutely swamp a retail Supercharger during peak hours, and dedicated depots are the cleanest way to prevent that. If this model holds as Robotaxi expands to new metros, owners in those cities should see less fleet competition at public chargers, not more.
It's also another reminder of where the real charging convenience still lives — your driveway. Tesla is quietly assembling the unglamorous half of autonomy: places for driverless cars to charge, clean up, and stage. The Ridgepoint filing says Tesla is prioritizing what works today — 24 plug-in V4 posts that serve both Cybercabs and Model Y robotaxis — over the wireless future it keeps sketching in its longer-term plans. Watch whether the St. Elmo inductive pads actually get built in phase two. That'll tell us a lot about how soon plug-free charging is real versus aspirational.
