Chevy Bolt EUV vs Bolt EV: Which One Should You Charge Differently?

General Motors made the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV confusingly similar on the outside. Under the hood (well, under the floor), there are meaningful differences in battery, range, and charging behavior that affect which home charger is the best fit.

Bolt EV vs Bolt EUV: The Specs That Matter

Spec Bolt EV Bolt EUV
Battery 65kWh 65kWh
EPA Range 259 miles 247 miles
Onboard AC charger 7.2kW (32A) 7.2kW (32A)
DC fast charge 82kW CCS (2022+) 82kW CCS
Level 2 charge time ~7 hours (32A) ~7 hours (32A)

Both share the same 65kWh battery and 7.2kW onboard charger. This means the optimal home charging setup is identical for both models.

The Right Home Charger for Both

Both the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV max out at 32A (7.2kW) on Level 2. There is no benefit to buying a 48A or 80A charger for daily charging — the car cannot use the extra power.

The ideal setup:

  • Portable Level 2 32A charger — exact match for the Bolt's onboard charger. Full charge overnight. No electrician needed if you have a NEMA 14-50 outlet.
  • IYILO 40A wall-mount — wall-mounted option. The Bolt draws 32A max but the 40A capacity means your charger is never working at its limit, which extends its lifespan.

If you plan to upgrade to a higher-range EV in the next 3-5 years, buying a 48A charger now costs little more and handles any EV you might own next.

Bolt EV Maintenance Accessories

Beyond charging, a few accessories that Bolt owners consistently recommend:

DC Fast Charging: What Bolt Owners Should Know

The 2022+ Bolt (both models) upgraded from 55kW to 82kW DC fast charging — a significant improvement. At 82kW, you can add roughly 100 miles in 30 minutes at a CCS fast charger. Use this for road trips, not daily charging, to protect long-term battery health.
