Tesla Starts Rolling Out the Summer Update to FSD Cars in Europe

If you pay for FSD and you've spent the last month watching everyone else show off Preferred Routes and Grok vehicle commands, there's good news. Tesla has started rolling the 2026 Summer Update out to vehicles on the FSD track, beginning in Europe with software update 2026.27.100.1.

That build pairs FSD 14.2.2.6 for Hardware 4 vehicles with the full 2026 Summer Update feature set. It's a small rollout so far, sitting at roughly 1.2% of the fleet, but it's the first sign that the two code branches are being merged back together.

Why FSD Cars Wait Longer for New Features

This is one of those quirks that surprises new FSD subscribers. Once a vehicle has been subscribed to FSD for several months, Tesla typically moves it to the FSD track. That means you get the latest FSD builds first, but you wait longer for everything else.

The reason is simple: new features get merged into Tesla's main development branch, while FSD updates live on a separate branch. Until Tesla merges the two, FSD vehicles keep improving on the driving side while the infotainment and convenience features sit just out of reach.

Tesla announced the Summer Update more than a month ago, and vehicles on the latest FSD builds are only now receiving it for the first time.

What FSD Owners Have Been Missing

The 2026.26 Summer Update was a big one, and availability varies by model and hardware. Here's the short list of what's arriving with the merge:

  • Preferred Routes and smarter Automatic Navigation
  • Grok vehicle commands
  • Caraoke scoring (requires AMD Ryzen infotainment)
  • Customizable driving visualization zoom
  • Mobile custom-wrap uploads
  • Camera Preview while driving
  • Arrival-energy settings from the Tesla app
  • Apple Music queuing and Supercharger search by site name
  • The option to disable touch input on rear displays

Newer Model 3 and Model Y vehicles also pick up welcome animations, and a few features — including browser camera access — need the AMD Ryzen infotainment computer to work.

What About North America and Oceania?

Europe is first, but other regions are likely close behind. Oceania and North America are both expected to see the same merge, and in North America there's an extra group waiting: Hardware 3 vehicles running v14 Lite are still holding out for the Summer Update too.

Getting the Most From the New Features

A few of these additions play nicely with gear you may already own. Camera Preview while driving and the rear-display touch lockout are both worth pairing with a solid screen protector, since you'll be tapping the center display more often and want the kids' rear screen to stay smudge-free and locked down on road trips.

Apple Music queuing and Caraoke also make a good case for keeping a reliable USB-C cable and a powered hub in the car — streaming, phone charging, and a dashcam drive all competing for the same ports is a familiar frustration. And if Preferred Routes has you planning longer drives, this is a good moment to check that your mobile connector, adapters, and roadside kit are actually in the frunk and not in the garage.
