Tesla App 4.59.5: Pet Mode Live Activity Comes to Android, Plus Smarter Tesla Assist

Tesla rolled out app version 4.59.5 on August 5, 2026, and while the official release notes are quiet, the code inside tells a more interesting story. According to NotaTeslaApp, this update lays the groundwork for three changes that owners have been asking about: a Pet Mode Live Activity for Android users, the ability to send photos and documents to Tesla Assist, and the option to pick up an Assist conversation where you left off.

All three apply across the lineup — Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck.

Pet Mode Live Activity Is Coming to Android

In the 2025 Holiday Update, Tesla gave iOS users a Live Activity for Dog Mode: a persistent, glanceable readout of cabin temperature paired with an interior photo that refreshes automatically every minute. It's the kind of feature that turns a quick coffee run from an anxious sprint into a normal errand.

Android owners have been left out — until now. Version 4.59.5 contains new string references that point squarely at the feature landing on Android, including:

  • android_native_dog_mode_notif_channel_desc — "Live updates while Pet Mode is keeping the cabin climate set"
  • android_native_dog_mode_notif_image_title — "Pet Mode"

The update also references new Pet Mode avatars. Worth noting: these are undocumented findings, so the feature may arrive with this version or switch on in a subsequent one. Either way, the plumbing is in place.

If you drive with a dog or cat regularly, this is the single most useful Android app change in months — real-time cabin temperature and a live interior photo, right on your lock screen.

Why Pet Mode Owners Should Think About Battery and Cabin Setup

Pet Mode runs your climate system while the car sits, and that draws from the pack. It's a small draw in the grand scheme, but it adds up on hot afternoons and long errand runs. A few practical habits pair well with the new Live Activity:

  • Start with a healthy buffer. Pet Mode disables itself at low state of charge, so topping off at home before a day of errands is the simplest safeguard. A reliable Level 2 setup or a well-matched mobile connector adapter makes overnight charging a non-event.
  • Protect the interior. Claws, fur, and muddy paws are hard on seats and cargo floors. Rear seat covers, a hammock-style pet barrier, and an all-weather trunk or frunk liner keep resale value intact.
  • Keep roadside gear on board. Anytime you're leaving a pet in the car, redundancy matters — a jump-capable power bank, a compact tire inflator, and a basic emergency kit are worth the trunk space.

Tesla Assist Gets Photo and File Uploads

Tesla's AI-based in-app assistant is about to become far more useful. New phrases in 4.59.5 — including TESLA_ASSIST_UPLOAD_FILE and useTeslaAssistAttachments — indicate owners will soon be able to share photos and documents with the assistant.

The practical upside is obvious: instead of describing a warning message, you'll be able to snap a photo of your center screen or share a screenshot from the app and let Assist work from there. Tesla recently added microphone input to Assist as well, though for now that only transcribes your voice into text. Talking directly to the assistant looks like a future step.

You Can Now Continue Assist Conversations

Start a chat with Tesla Assist and you can now return to it later. Recent Assist conversations appear in the Messages section of the app — the same place Tesla sends service notices and promo announcements.

These threads are temporary. They automatically disappear after several hours, and you can remove one early by swiping left on the message or tapping End in the Tesla Assist window.

Catching Up: What 4.59.1 and 4.59.0 Added

If you skipped the last couple of releases, there's more worth knowing:

  • Set Arrival Energy (4.59.1): The app's Trip Planner now lets you specify how much charge you want left on arrival. That's a meaningful upgrade — arriving at a hotel with just enough range is very different from having enough to reach the next Supercharger or explore the area.   • Robot commands and phone key (4.59.0): Strings referencing e-stop, resume, home data collection, and robot phone key pairing — likely Optimus-related, and far too early to read much into.
