Range Rover GT Spotted Testing at the Nürburgring: What EV Shoppers Should Know

Range Rover is adding a fifth member to its lineup, and it's the odd one out in the best way. The new Range Rover GT trades the brand's signature upright SUV stance for a low-slung, fastback grand tourer shape — and thanks to a new video shot at the Nürburgring, we're finally seeing it move in the real world instead of in a press studio.

The GT was revealed last month, and Range Rover isn't underselling it. The British brand calls the vehicle "a captivating new expression" of the marque and "the most technologically sophisticated" model it has ever created.

Range Rover had already previewed prototypes during final on-road testing, but a new clip from @Wilcoblok catches a GT prototype running laps at the Nürburgring. It's still wearing heavy camouflage, so you're not getting a clean look at the sheet metal — but the proportions come through clearly. This is a much lower, sleeker shape than anything else wearing the Range Rover badge, and it looks even sportier in motion than it did in the reveal images.

Martin Limbert, Range Rover's managing director, says the design came out of years of obsessing over the fundamentals of the GT formula.

"The result is the most car-like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created."

Electric first, hybrid later

The GT is the first vehicle built on JLR's new EMA platform. It launches as a battery-electric vehicle, with a full-hybrid option arriving later in the model's lifecycle. Here's what's known so far:

  • Battery: An expected 100 kWh pack
  • Range: Potentially close to 500 miles (800 km) on the European cycle, helped by that slippery fastback body; in the US, an EPA-estimated 300 miles or more
  • Production: Begins in the first half of 2027 at JLR's Halewood plant in the UK
  • Pricing: Likely over £75,000 ($100,000) in the UK, and around $90,000 to start in the US
  • Positioning: Slots below the Velar in the lineup

For context, the flagship Range Rover Electric SUV — built on JLR's older MLA platform — uses a larger 118 kWh pack and is rated at up to 373 miles (600 km). The GT getting more range from a smaller battery is a nice reminder of how much aerodynamics matter in an EV. It's the same reason a Model 3 out-ranges a Model Y on the same architecture, and the same reason your roof rack or aftermarket wheels can quietly cost you miles.

Inside: screens, hidden vents, and woven fabric

The cabin follows the same brief as the exterior — "purity, precision, and quiet modernity," per Limbert. A large digital screen anchors the center of the dash, and a small driver display replaces the traditional instrument cluster. A concealed air vent runs the full width of the cabin, and a woven textile wraps the dashboard to hide the speakers.

If that sounds familiar to Tesla owners, it should. The minimal-cluster, screen-forward layout that Tesla popularized is now the default in premium EVs — which is also why the accessory playbook carries over so neatly between brands.

What this means for EV owners shopping accessories

You can't buy a Range Rover GT yet, but the design direction here tells you a lot about where the whole segment is heading — and what gear holds its value across your next few vehicles:

  • Screen protection is universal now. A large center display doing double duty as the instrument cluster means fingerprints and glare are a daily annoyance. A matte or tempered-glass screen protector is one of the cheapest quality-of-life upgrades in any modern EV.
  • Charging gear travels with you, not the car. A quality Level 2 charger, a portable Level 1/2 unit for road trips, and the right adapters are brand-agnostic purchases. With NACS adoption spreading across the industry, a good adapter set is worth having whether your next EV wears a Tesla badge or a Range Rover one.
  • Aero matters more than you think. If a fastback body can pull an extra 100+ miles out of a smaller pack, it's worth being deliberate about what you bolt to the outside of your car. Use roof boxes and racks when you need them, and take them off when you don't.
  • Long-range EVs still need roadside gear. A 500-mile grand tourer doesn't change the fundamentals: a tire inflator and plug kit, jumper pack, and a proper emergency kit belong in the frunk no matter how big the battery is.

The bottom line

Range Rover says more GT details are coming later this year, and the flagship electric SUV lands first. For now, this Nürburgring video is the best look we have at a luxury EV that's chasing efficiency through shape rather than through a bigger, heavier pack — a philosophy every EV owner benefits from, whether you're spec'ing a $90,000 grand tourer or just deciding whether to leave the roof rack on this weekend.
