Range Rover Electric Arrives at $140K With 333 Miles of Range and a Built-In NACS Port

The waiting list is finally over. JLR opened orders on Wednesday for the Range Rover Electric, the British automaker's first fully electric luxury SUV, with pricing starting at $140,450 for the base SE trim in the US (£154,070 OTR in the UK). More than 61,000 people had signed up since the list opened in late 2023, so there is real pent-up demand behind this launch.

For EV owners who have been watching the luxury segment, the headline spec isn't the price or the horsepower — it's the charging port. Every North American Range Rover Electric ships with a built-in NACS port, which means Tesla Supercharger access with no adapter in the glovebox.

What the Range Rover Electric Actually Delivers

The dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces a combined 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, which JLR describes as "V8 levels of power." That's good for 0-60 mph in as little as 4.3 seconds — quick for a full-size luxury SUV that can still wade through 35.4 inches (900 mm) of water, matching the gas version.

New tech developed specifically for the EV includes Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) and Integrated Traction Management (ITM), which control motor speed within 50 milliseconds and manage wheel slip up to 100 times faster than an equivalent combustion vehicle. Range Rover's managing director Martin Limbert said the SUV underwent the most intensive testing of any JLR vehicle to make sure it's "genuinely the most accomplished Range Rover ever."

At the top of the range, the LWB First Edition starts at $183,850 and adds a front center console fridge, the Tailgate Event Suite package, and illuminated metal treadplates with First Edition badging.

Why the NACS Port Matters More Than the Horsepower

Not long ago, buying a non-Tesla EV meant budgeting for a CCS-to-NACS adapter and hoping your car played nicely with the Supercharger network's cable lengths. The Range Rover Electric skips that step entirely with a factory NACS port — the same direction most of the industry is now heading.

The 800V architecture is the real story for road trippers: 10-80% in about 22 minutes means a coffee stop, not a lunch break. Pair that with Supercharger access and long-distance towing in a luxury SUV starts to make actual sense.

That said, a native NACS port doesn't make adapters obsolete. Plenty of destination chargers, hotel Level 2 units, workplace stations, and older public networks still run J1772 or CCS1 connectors. If you're driving a NACS-equipped vehicle, a J1772-to-NACS adapter is the one you'll actually reach for — it turns any legacy Level 2 station into a usable overnight charge.

What This Means If You Drive a Tesla

More non-Tesla EVs with native NACS ports means more competition for Supercharger stalls, especially along popular corridors. A few practical takeaways:

  • Plan for busier stalls. As luxury and mainstream brands adopt NACS, peak-hour waits at high-traffic sites are likely to grow. Charging off-peak, or having a backup CCS adapter for your Tesla, gives you more options.
  • Home charging is still the cheapest miles. A big 118.5 kWh pack like this one is a reminder that a proper Level 2 setup at home beats public DC fast charging on cost and battery health for daily use.
  • Towing changes the math. If you tow with an EV, expect range to drop significantly. Extra charging cables, a portable Level 1/Level 2 unit, and a tire repair kit are worth having when your effective range shrinks.

The Roadside Reality of Big, Heavy EVs

A 200-inch luxury SUV with a 118.5 kWh battery is a heavy vehicle, and heavy vehicles are hard on tires. That's true of the Range Rover Electric, and it's equally true of a Model X, a Cybertruck, or a Model Y hauling a full load. Tire pressure monitoring, a compact portable air compressor, and a tire repair kit are cheap insurance against the most common roadside failure EV owners actually experience.

The same goes for winter: cold weather cuts range on every EV regardless of badge, and a small emergency kit with a jump pack for the 12V system, a flashlight, and a blanket is worth the trunk space.

At $140,450 to start, the Range Rover Electric isn't going to be a common sight in your local Supercharger queue anytime soon. But it's another meaningful signal that NACS has won the North American port war, and that 800V architectures with sub-25-minute fast charging are becoming the expectation rather than the exception.

For the rest of us, the practical takeaway is simpler: make sure your charging setup covers every connector you might encounter. A native NACS port handles Superchargers, but a good J1772 adapter, a reliable home Level 2 charger, and a portable backup unit are what keep you charged everywhere else.
