Tesla Model 3 Highland vs. Pre-Highland: The Accessory Fitment Guide
Share
If you own a Tesla Model 3, the single most useful thing you can know before buying accessories is whether your car is a Highland (the 2024+ refresh) or a pre-Highland (2017–2023) build. The two look similar from across a parking lot, but the dimensions, trim, and interior layout changed enough that a surprising number of parts are not cross-compatible.
How to tell which one you have
The quickest tells: Highland cars dropped the traditional turn-signal and gear stalks (you shift from the touchscreen), gained ventilated front seats with a cleaner one-piece dash, added a rear passenger screen, and have restyled front and rear bumpers with sharper headlights. If your car still has stalks on the steering column, it's pre-Highland.
What changed for accessory fitment
- Floor and trunk mats — The footwell and trunk geometry shifted slightly. Buy mats cut specifically for Highland; pre-Highland sets leave gaps. Browse fitment-correct sets in the Model 3 Highland collection.
- Screen protectors — The Highland's center display and the new rear screen need their own protectors. A pre-Highland film will not line up.
- Mud flaps and door-sill protectors — Mounting points and bumper cutouts changed; look for "Highland" in the title.
- Interior trim and wraps — The dash is now a single uninterrupted panel, so carbon-fiber dash kits and wrap pieces are model-specific.
- Center console — Storage inserts and gap fillers were redesigned around the new console.
What still carries over
Universal items are safe either way: portable Level 2 chargers, charging adapters, tire inflators, roadside kits, and most phone mounts. If it plugs in or sits loose in the cabin, it almost certainly fits both generations.
Before you buy
Match the model year and the word "Highland" (or "pre-Highland" / "2017–2023") in the product title, and check our fitment notes on each listing. When in doubt, a quick look at our Watch & Learn video reviews shows the part installed on a real car so you can confirm it matches yours.
