Hyundai and Genesis Owners Now Get 20% Off at Ionna Fast Chargers

If you drive a Hyundai or Genesis EV in the U.S., road trips just got cheaper. Starting August 20, Hyundai and Genesis owners can charge at Ionna's Rechargeries at a discounted rate, thanks to two stackable promotions from the automakers and the charging operator.

Ionna's base rate is $0.39 per kilowatt-hour plus tax for everyone. Stack both 10% discounts and eligible Hyundai and Genesis drivers pay $0.31/kWh — among the cheapest public DC fast charging in the country right now.

How the Two Discounts Work

There's no promo code and no extra app to download. The savings come from two separate offers that apply on top of each other:

• A 10% discount that expires September 30, 2026
• A second 10% discount that Ionna says will stick around for the foreseeable future

Together that's 20% off while the first offer lasts, then 10% off after it ends. The discounts apply automatically to your session — with one important catch.

The Catch: Don't Use the Credit Card Reader

This is the part worth memorizing before you pull into a stall. The discount does not apply if you tap a card at the on-site reader. To get the lower rate, you have to start the session through your automaker's smartphone app, or via Plug & Charge if your vehicle supports it and you've set it up ahead of time.

Tap-to-pay at the stall means paying full price. Start the session in the Hyundai or Genesis app — or plug in with Plug & Charge already configured — and the discount lands on its own.

If you've never set up Plug & Charge on your car, do it at home before your next trip rather than in a parking lot with 8% battery. It's a one-time setup that pays for itself.

Which EVs Qualify

According to Hyundai, an Ionna founding partner, five Hyundai models currently support in-app charging and Plug & Charge:

• Ioniq 5 (2022 and newer)
• Ioniq 5 N (2025 and newer)
• Ioniq 9 (2026 and newer)
• Kona Electric (2025 and newer)

Some 2022–2024 Ioniq 5 models only support in-app charging, not Plug & Charge — you can still get the discount, you just have to start the session from the app every time.

On the Genesis side, the GV60 and Electrified GV70 from the 2026 model year onward support both in-app charging and Plug & Charge, so those owners are covered too.

Notably absent: the Hyundai Ioniq 6, which was recently discontinued in the U.S. and isn't on the compatible list. Hyundai has said in-app charging is coming to additional models later this year, so the sedan may still get added. Kia, another Ionna partner, doesn't offer charging discounts for its EVs yet.

Why Ionna Is Worth Seeking Out

Ionna has been building a reputation fast. J.D. Power recently ranked the network at the top of its DC fast charging satisfaction study, and the reason is refreshingly simple: the stations are clean and the stalls actually work. Pair that reliability with a $0.31/kWh rate and it's an easy first choice on a road trip route.

Hyundai and Genesis owners aren't the only ones getting a deal, either — BMW and Mini EV drivers in the U.S. landed a similar offer earlier this year, with up to 20% off at Ionna Rechargeries through September 30.

What This Means for Your Charging Kit

Cheaper DC fast charging is great, but the drivers who save the most are the ones who don't get stranded at the wrong plug. A few practical takeaways:

• Keep your adapters sorted. Hyundai and Genesis EVs on NACS-equipped networks live and die by having the right adapter in the frunk. Know which one your car needs before the trip, not during it.
• Charge cable management matters. A dedicated cable bag or organizer keeps your Level 2 cable and adapters from becoming a tangled mess in the trunk.
• Don't skip the roadside basics. Discounted fast charging encourages longer legs between stops. A tire inflator, a jump/emergency kit, and a portable Level 1/2 charger are cheap insurance when you're pushing range.
• Phone mount and power. If the discount depends on starting sessions from your phone, make sure your phone is mounted, charged, and reachable at the stall.

Bottom line: check that your model is on the eligible list, set up Plug & Charge or the automaker app before your next drive, and skip the credit card reader. That's 20% off through September 30 and 10% off after that, for doing essentially nothing different except how you start the session.
